The International Floral Display has featured around 35 countries since 2006.
In 2006, the first “Flowers Around the World” exhibit
was held in the magnificent 102' tall nave of Washington National Cathedral. Washington Embassies, their ambassadors, and their floral designers contributed to the creation of gorgeous displays in the bays that run the length of the great hall. That year, the exhibit was the theme of the Mart and the Chair was Laura Felder. Marie-Therese Lowell, wife of the Ambassador from Malta suggested the idea to a member of All Hallows Guild based on her experience of such exhibits in her home country.
The floral designs highlight each country’s natural and floral heritage as well as its topography, national colors, flags, and symbols. Their designer’s talents produce stunning visual effects against the backdrop of the impressive Gothic structure. The exhibit is open both days of Flower Mart with free admission.
Many smaller embassies are able to support Flower Mart by participating in the exhibit. To date (2006-2015), nearly 40 different embassies have contributed to the exhibit – some numerous years. The exhibit has grown to be one of the most anticipated and enjoyed aspects of Flower Mart.
